Passengers in Indian Railway will have to pay more for quality service.

INDIAN RAILWAY hiked passenger fare. The increased ticket fare for second class, sleeper class and AC class will come into force today. Due to the present hike ticket fare for long distance travel will be increased with effect from 01 July 2025.

This nationwide fare hike is first in the history of IRCTC for the last five years. The increased fare will impact passengers based on class of travel and distance. The increased fare will not affect second class passengers of upto 500 km.

Beyond 500 km the fare increase will be Rs. 5 for 501 to 1500 km, Rs. 10 for 1501 to 2500 km, Rs. 15 for 2501 to 3000 km. Second class ticket fare of Mail and Express trains will be increased by 1 paisa as part of the hike.

Ticket fare of sleeper class and first class will be increased by 0.5 paisa per kilometre and by 1 paisa per kilometre on mail/express train services. Regarding AC classes, including Chair Car, AC 3-Tier/3-Economy, AC 2-Tier, and First/Executive Class, fares will increase by 2 paisa per kilometre.

The new fare will be applicable to premium and special trains also. Therefore passengers in Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto, Vande Bharat, Tejas, Humsafar and others have to pay increased charge for their journey.

The current decision of IRCTC is confined only to passenger fare. It means ancillary charges like reservation fees, superfast surcharges and GST will remain unchanged and fare rounding-off practices also will continue as per existing law.
