 It was reported by NDTV world and Financial Times that Steel Tycoon Lakshmi Mittal may soon leave the United Kingdom after the labor government driven tax reform that scraps the non domiciled regime which allowed some British residents to avoid paying British tax in respect of foreign income and gain.

No remedy against WazirX under consumer law- aggrieved plans to approach supreme court of India

 An Indian consumer court has dismissed a claim filed by a group of fourty individuals affected by domestic crypto exchange WazirX losing $233 million in an alleged hack in July 2024.  The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) of India on 27 March 2025 noted that cryptocurrencies are neither legal tender nor permitted as an investment asset in India. India tightening oversight of foreign companies and their imports - government ordered Samsung to pay unpaid taxes and penalty.

 India government ordered Samsung and it's management to pay 601 million dollars (the amount consistng of unpaid taxes and penalty) in back taxes and penalties.This action of the government is for dodging tariffs on import of telecom equipments.The demanded amount represents major part of last year's net profit of the company.In the last year the Samsung in India had reported a net profits of 955 million dollars.The company is engaged in and shows a strong presence in the area of smartphone business and consumer electronics business.However legal remedies are available to the company against the government order demanding tax and penalty amount by way of challenging it in a court or tribunal. In related to import of transmission components used in mobile towers the company had received a warning notice in 2023 for misclassifying imports to evade tariffs of 10% or 20%. Indus Bank hires expert to investigate discrepancy

Indus Bank Borad of Directors declared on 20 March 2025 its plan to appoint an independent professional firm for conducting a detailed and comprehensive investigation related to its discrepancies connected with derivative portfolio. The investigation will focus on root cause of the discrepancy , evaluation of accuracy and impact of the accounting contracts, evaluation of compliance of current accounting standards . The main purpose of the proposed investigation is to assess the potential risk related to bank's derivative contracts. The outcomes of the investigation may help the bank to adress such issues in future if arises.

German Parliament approves biggest spending package in the history of the country

German Parliament approved  biggest spending package in the history of the country. The legislation in this regard was passed on Tuesday in the lower house of Parliament with 512 votes out of a total of 733. The legislation proposed by conservative Chancellor- in - waiting Friedrich Merz was also backed by the Social Democrats and the Greens.The legislation in the next stage will head to a vote on Friday at the Budesrat for approval where Germany's 16 Federal States are represented. The legislation is a major step towards unlocking hundreds of billions of euros in debt financing for defence and infrastructure and heralding the end of decades of budget austirity.

Hints of peace from Europe

US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, spoke for more than two hours over the phone since a ceasefire proposal was announced in Saudi Arabia. Both sides said Russia had agreed to pause attacks on energy infrastructure in Ukraine.But this consensus is for 30 days and that teams would be created to start talks on a wider ceasefire in future. Russia, pointed out that a pause in foreign aid to Ukraine would be a key element to any peace agreement. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said such conditions show Putin is not ready to end the war.

What is Allianz SE's new share purchase agreements with Bajaj Finserv Ltd

On 17th March 2025  Allianz SE signed a binding share purchase agreements with Bajaj Finserv Ltd. The purpose of agreement is to sell its 26% stake in its successful non-life and life insurance joint ventures – Bajaj Allianz General Insurance Company and Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance Company – to the Bajaj Group for a total consideration of EUR ~2.6bn . As per the agreement Allianz may receive the proceeds in several tranches. The agreement is the result of constructive and amicable talks with Bajaj Finserv Ltd. India continues to be one of Allianz’s growth markets, and Allianz will explore new opportunities that strengthen its position in the market and expand its potential to serve not only as an investor but also as an operator.  As the proceeds become available, Allianz will consider options for their deployment that support the company’s strategic ambitions, in particular the reinvestment of sale proceeds into potential new opportunities in India.
