55th Meeting of the GST Council of India held on December 21,2024. Union Minister for Finance & Corporate Affairs Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman chaired the meeting conducted in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan.The council recommended :- Reduction in GST rate on Fortified Rice Kernel (FRK). To fully exempt GST on gene therapy Exemption of GST on contributions by general insurance companies from third-party motor vehicle premiums for Motor Vehicle Accident Fund No GST on transaction of vouchers as they are neither supply of goods nor supply of services and the provisions related to vouchers simplified. Clarified that no GST is payable on ‘penal charges’ levied and collected by banks and NBFCs from borrowers for non-compliance with loan terms Reduction of payment of pre-deposit for filing an appeal before the Appellate Authority in respect of an order passed which involves only penalty amount.

Climate change is happening in super fast mode. In order to tackle and manage the problems of climate change the Government of New Zealand has framed a new framework.Under the new framework  the Crown Financial Institutions has been invested with new responsibilities  to achieve the goal of carbon neutral New Zealand by 2050. As per the report released on December 11,2024 by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics the (CPI-U) increased 0.3 percent in November 2024 on a seasonally adjusted basis. This increase is made after rising 0.2 percent in each of the previous four months.It was reported that US Consumer Price rose 2.7 % annually in line with expectation. The index for shelter rose 0.3% in November.The food index also increased over the month, rising 0.4 % as the food at home index increased 0.5 %and the food away from home index rose 0.3 %. The energy index rose 0.2 %. US Treasury Department acted for the benefit of Ukraine On December 10,2024 the U S  Treasury Treasury Department announced the disbursement of 20 billion Dollar for the benefit of Ukraine. It was reported that the present disburse is part of the 50 billion Dollar G7 Extraordinary Revenue Acceleration (ERA) Loans initiative. Secretary of the Treasury Janet L. Yellen  said “These funds – paid for by the windfall proceeds earned from Russia’s own immobilized assets – will provide Ukraine a critical infusion of support as it defends its country against an unprovoked war of aggression," Accordingly it wa reported that this US initiative will help ensure Ukraine has the resources it needs to sustain emergency services, hospitals.

As per data released by National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL) of India, Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPI) pumped more than Rs. 24000 crores in equity market of India during the first week of December 2024 suppressing the selling trend of the last two months. The new buying trended of December first week brought confidence in India's economic outlook among investors and general public. Foreign Institutional Investors had made major withdrawals in October and November of 2024.As per the data, the single largest investment was made on December 6,2024. On December 6,2024 itself Foreign Portfolio Investors invested Rs. 9489 crores in Indian equity market. In the previous two months of October and November the Foreign Institutional investors were net sellers.  The new trend made from the part of foreign institutional investors increased confidence in India's economic aspects and also alerted the market sentiments.
