The BBC warning of legal action against Perplexity alleging Perplexity reproduced BBC content without their consent.
The BBC sent legal notice to Perplexity asking to stop the alleged unauthorised access to BBC content and also demanded to delete any content it hold. The BBC also demanded monetory compensation for the content already used by the AI company Perplexity.
This type of legal action taken against an AI company is first time in the history of the BBC.It had not taken any legal action against any AI company.
The BBC briefly explained that four chatbot including Perplexity AI improperly summarised news content of BBC.
